Western countries should support Ukraine in negotiations with Russia, strengthening the position of Kyiv. This was stated by British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss during a speech in the House of Commons of Parliament.

“We will never allow Ukraine to be pressured to give up its territory, which we ourselves would never agree to . Through the G7 and NATO, we are doing everything we can to strengthen Ukraine's position [at the negotiating table]. We also need to make sure that our friends from the Baltic countries and Poland are involved in this process,— Truss said.

According to her, Russia has not yet “demonstrated” that it is in the mood for “serious negotiations.”

“Ukraine can and must win,”— concluded the British minister, promising that London would not deviate from its obligations to Kyiv, regardless of the duration of the conflict.

Truss stressed that the Russian side must not only be defeated in this conflict, but also not take any either profit, and also Moscow should be isolated on the world stage.

Earlier, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said that hostilities in Ukraine should end at the negotiating table and that the alliance is ready to help Kyiv take the strongest position in negotiations with Moscow.

He considered it possible to establish peace in Ukraine, the only question is the price— how much territory, how much freedom and democracy the country is willing to pay for this world.

French leader Emmanuel Macron also noted the day before that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would one day have to enter into negotiations with Russia.

Russia and Ukraine have held several rounds of negotiations since February 24 and passed proposals to each other to resolve the conflict, but in mid-May, the parties announced the suspension of the dialogue. According to the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, the discussion was frozen at the initiative of Kyiv.

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly spoken about his readiness for negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, the Kremlin emphasized that such a meeting is possible only after the delegations of the two countries draw up a draft peace agreement.

At the end of May, the Ukrainian leader announced that Kyiv would begin negotiations with Moscow after returning the territories over which he lost control during the hostilities.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced in early June that the West had forbidden Kyiv to continue negotiations with Moscow.
